Company Will Demonstrate Newly Certified EMB(TM) Barrier

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 17, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --

Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation (Nasdaq Global Select: SWHC) -- Smith & Wesson Security Solutions, a leading turnkey provider of perimeter security solutions, will exhibit at one of the security industry's largest bi-annual equipment demonstrations, the "by invitation only" Force Protection Equipment Demonstration (FPED VIII), held May 17-19 at the Stafford Regional Airport in Stafford, Virginia.

The biennial event, which showcases global leaders in security technology and security product services, serves as the first venue in which the company will present as the newly named Smith & Wesson Security Solutions, a business which represents the entry of the iconic Smith & Wesson brand name into the perimeter security industry.

Smith & Wesson will demonstrate a number of proprietary products including the Expeditionary Mobile Barrier (EMB(TM)), an innovative, reduced-risk, mobile, automotive net barrier technology that now simultaneously meets two safety standards: the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Department of Transportation TL-3 vehicle barrier rating and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) PU-60 security barrier rating. Deployed in less than eight minutes, the EMB and provides effective security in a variety of settings such as law enforcement or military check points and road construction projects. Other products that will be showcased along with Smith & Wesson's construction management and system installation capabilities include:

  • GRAB® - With Department of State rating and both M50 and M40 ASTM certifications, this GSN award-winning, patented, energy-absorbing security barrier technology is designed to work across a spectrum of vehicle weights and speeds. The reduced-risk GRAB can stop vehicles up to 15,000 pounds and can be re-set, post-impact, in less than one hour. (http://smith-wessonsecuritysolutions.com/cut-sheets/GRAB-300.pdf)
  • The Xtreme Mobile Barrier (XMB(TM)) - The XMB is a completely portable barricade that can be installed and operational in the field in less than ten minutes. With its small, lightweight design and ability to be used on virtually any surface, the XMB is a highly efficient security barrier for a broad range of applications. • Ballistic-rated guard booths which can be integrated into access control locations as check points or which can house a barrier control panel for a GRAB system, traffic control drop arm, XMB or other security device. (http://smith-wessonsecuritysolutions.com/cut-sheets/guard-booths.pdf)
  • The Overspeed Directional Detection System (ODDS®) which provides advanced alert at access control points of potential vehicle threats. By sensing the speed and the direction of vehicles, the ODDS system provides guard staff with information needed to make critical decisions. At this year's event we look forward to providing attendees a number of full-scale product displays and virtual demonstrations, allowing them to experience the complete integration of products and services that Smith & Wesson Security Solutions delivers."
